CBC Radio Rings in the Holidays and Supports Food Bank
CBC-Radio, Toronto will ring in the holidays with CBC's Sounds of the Season, a new collection of Christmas classics and original music recorded exclusively for the CD and performed by some of Toronto's hottest musical talent. A portion of the proceeds from Toronto sales will be directed to Daily Bread Food Bank.

"Daily Bread Food Bank is proud to be part of the CBC Radio One 99.1 release of Sounds of the Season," says Gail Nyberg, executive director of Daily Bread Food Bank. "We have been fortunate to be the beneficiary of CBC's goodwill over the holiday season for many years, and this year we are thrilled to be part of this amazing collection of Toronto musicians and performers".

Sounds of the Season (CBC Records and Universal Music) captures Canada's diverse mix of music genres with tracks ranging from a cappella to soul and hip hop. In cities outside of Toronto, a portion of the proceeds from CD sales will go towards a variety of charities with many regions supporting their local food bank.

Performed in English, Spanish, Portuguese and a variety of African languages, the selections feature R & B sensations In Essence, Canada's "soul divas" Jully Black and Divine Brown, and the smooth voice of Ray Robinson. Described as a vocalist known for her rich sounds of jazz, soul, blues and gospel, Dione Taylor performs her rendition of "O Holy Night" with the critically-acclaimed choir Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Other artists include the ever-sensuous Amanda Martinez with her mesmerizing track "Diciembre", African Guitar Summit, Eliana Cuevas, the Pocket Dwellers, Catarina Cardeal and the incomparable jacksoul.

CBC Radio One 99.1's Claudia Garcia De la Huerta and Ron Skinner produced the CD to highlight some of the best musical talent Toronto has to offer and extend the impact of CBC Radio's annual Sounds of the Season holiday food drive.

Sounds of the Season is not just a new CD. It's an event. For the past four years, CBC Radio One 99.1 has held an annual all-day live broadcast from Glenn Gould studio, as a holiday fundraiser for charity. Some of Canada's brightest talent, including many of the artists on the album, have performed to a packed house each year in order to raise money and food for Daily Bread Food Bank.
