CRTC Approves TSN for Second Digital Feed
TSN's application for a second broadcast feed has
been approved by the federal broadcast regulator despite opposition from the CBC and CanWest Global.
TSN will be allowed to distribute two national feeds simultaneously.
The second feed is limited to digital television. The additional channel will give the network a
large amount of flexibility in program scheduling. It could conceivably bid for the rights to Major League Baseball's Sunday night telecasts without concern about a conflict with its NFL Sunday
night telecasts.
TSN will be allowed to use only 10 per cent of its total quarterly broadcasting schedule for the second feed, which is 2.4 hours of programming a day
Rogers Sportsnet gave its approval of the licence amendment on the condition that TSN would not sell regional advertising on its second feed.
