Corus Radio Winnipeg's AM 680 CJOB Celebrates 70th Anniversary

    Corus Radio’s 680 CJOB (CJOB AM) celebrates 70 years as Winnipeg’s most trusted news talk station. For almost three quarters of a century, the storied heritage station has been a fixture within the city, providing generations of Winnipegers with local, national and international news, while encouraging discussion around current events and issues. Through its strong, unique and local voice, 680 CJOB has become the venerated station that remains true to Winnipeg and its listeners.

    “680 CJOB launched with the slogan, ‘Working for Winnipeg’ and seven decades later our focus remains the same,” said Scott Armstrong, General Manager, Corus Radio Winnipeg. “CJOB is dedicated to building and maintaining the trust of our listeners – the trust to source, examine and present information to Winnipeggers, when it matters most.”

    “680 CJOB is an important part of Winnipeg. For 70 years, the station has been chronicling, storytelling, and delivering important news and information to listeners across the city,” said Mayor Brian Bowman, City of Winnipeg. “Happy birthday and congratulations on all of your achievements over the last 70 years, and all the best in years to come.”

    The station was founded on March 11, 1946, by John Oliver Blick, a former writer and RCAF Officer who raised the money needed to launch the station and staffed it with former servicemen. Today, the staff has tripled in size. The programming continues to focus on supporting and contributing to the community, and works to continuously evolve the way information is delivered and consumed.

    “The content 680 CJOB delivers has not altered over the years, but the way our audience receives it has,” said Scott Pettigrew, Program Director, 680 CJOB. “Our website is now a daily stop for Winnipegers to catch up on local happenings, along with our mobile app, audio archives and newsletters. A lot has changed in 70 years, but our focus on delivering news hasn’t, and technology now allows us to connect with our audience on more platforms than ever before.”
