Vice Canada announces today that its original documentary, Cloning The Wooly Mammoth, produced with the help of the Bell Fund and in partnership with Space; received two Webby Awards for the Best Online Film & Video, Science & Education as well as The People’s Voice Award for Best Online Film & Video, Science & Education.

Cloning The Wooly Mammoth was created in support of the Season 3 premiere of the critically acclaimed Canadian series Orpahan Black on Space, starring the Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated Tatiana Maslany. Utilizing the expertise of Motherboard, VICE’s digital vertical dedicated to science, technology and future culture, Cloning the Wooly Mammoth follows the Korean scientists working to resurrect the prehistoric woolly mammoth using the flesh of a preserved specimen discovered in Siberia.

“We were really inspired by Orphan Black’s thrilling science fiction scenarios and bringing the mission to clone the woolly mammoth to life exemplified the real world application of cloning technology echoed in the series.” Nina Sudra, General Manager, VICE Canada.
