  • APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network) is proud to recognize programs broadcast by the network that won Gemini Awards this past weekend. Here are the winning programs:

    * Canada Award
    Two Worlds Colliding

    Two Worlds Colliding is the recipient of the Canada Award at this year’s Gemini Awards. Created and sponsored by the Multiculturalism Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage since 1988, the Canada Award honours excellence in mainstream television programming that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Canada.

    Written and directed by Tasha Hubbard and produced by Bonnie Thompson for the National Film Board of Canada, Two Worlds Colliding chronicles the painful and tumultuous story of what came to be known as Saskatoon’s infamous “freezing deaths,” and the schism between a fearful, mistrustful Aboriginal community and a police force that must come to terms with this shocking secret.

    * Best Performance in a Childrens’ or Youth Program or Series
    Ksenia Solo in renegadepress.com – Can You See Me Now

    renegadepress.com follows the story of teenager Jack Sinclair (Bronson Pelletier) and his best friend Zoey Jones (Ksenia Solo) who are determined to expose what’s really going on in the lives of today’s youth by using their teen generated e-zine ‘renegadepress.com’ as their platform.

    “On behalf of everyone at APTN, I wish to congratulate all of this year’s Gemini award winners, especially those we consider to be part of the APTN family,” says APTN CEO Jean LaRose. “Both these winning programs demonstrate the quality of work APTN delivers to its viewers each and every day. Through these types of programs, the stories of the Aboriginal Peoples in Canada are being shared with each other and with all Canadians,” explains LaRose.
