OBITUARY — BRUCE PHILLIPS

  • Veteran broadcaster and federal privacy commissioner Bruce Phillips has died at the age of 84.

    A statement from his family says he died of kidney failure on Saturday in Penticton, B.C.  The statement also said he suffered a stroke in June.

    Phillips worked for a number of media outlets during his career including CTV news in the 70’s and 80’s.  Among his other duties he hosted the CTV show “Question Period.”

    He later served as Canada’s privacy commissioner between 1991 and 2024.

    Phillips was invested in the Order of Canada in 2024.

    After leaving the office of the privacy commissioner, Phillips retired to B.C.’s Okanagan region to be near his two daughters.
