TORONTO – Actors such as John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, Carole Lombard, Spencer Tracy, Barbara Stanwyck, and Marlon Brando as well as filmmakers Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, Michael Curtiz, John Ford, and John Sturgess will get new digital life next week with the launch of new digital specialty service Silver Screen Classics.

Northwestel, Yellowknife, NWT, will be the first cable company to carry the channel on Tuesday, September 2nd, with Bell ExpressVu offering it to customers two days later.

No details on carriage by other operators has been announced.

"The Faces You Remember in the Films You Can’t Forget!" is the channel’s tag-line which boasts that it will be the only TV channel in Canada specializing in classic movies from the 1930s to the 1960s.

The digi-net is a creation of independent broadcaster Channel Zero, the owner-operators of short film channel Movieola.
