Rogers Communications is preparing to lay off some 300 staff members.

A Rogers media spokesperson has confirmed the job cuts, but no specific date or timeframe has been identified.

The layoffs will be spread across the company, according to reports, with management and head office positions being affected, although no specific operating area has been targeted.

Rogers operates  specialty channels, radio and television stations, print publications, and provides cable, telephony and Internet services for some nine million Canadians.

There are also indirect layoffs affecting at least one third-party outsourcing company. I was advised last week by Sykes Enterprises that my position as a call centre rep for Rogers was being eliminated due to a "shortage of work." First, our hours were cut back ... then the call came a few weeks later.
